Summary
LanguageTool is our recommended companion tool for anyone who writes extensively, and needs to minimize spelling and grammatical errors.
The best thing about the software is that besides excellent spell-checking, it offers a great range of rules for correcting grammatical errors. The software highlights all the frequent (and not so frequent) errors with its blue curvy line.
While the project offers a handy proofreader tool on its website, we prefer its standalone Java-based application, or one of its browser extensions. The online proofreader is limited to text under 20,000 words, but there’s no size limitations with extensions / plug-ins, or the standalone application.
There’s a neural-network version of LanguageTool which we haven’t yet explored in any great detail. We’ll therefore reserve judgment on that version to a later date.
There are paid plans available if you need additional functionality which increase the number of characters, add API access, and more.
