Excellent Utilities: McFly – navigate through your shell history

Summary

McFly is an excellent replacement for Bash’s ctrl-r functionality. For very recently entered commands, the up arrow is the quickest way of accessing the command I’m looking for. But for everything else, McFly gets frequent usage. It’s as fast as a ctrl-r look-up.

I really like that the tool still maintains your regular Bash history file. So if you decide to stop using McFly, you still have your bash history.

I’d like to see case sensitive matches added.

There are other similar tools available including fzf, hstr, histdb, and peco. Why not supplement McFly with these Command Line Navigation Tools?
