HydraPaper is a GTK application that lets you set a different wallpaper on each monitor. It is particularly useful on GNOME, where assigning separate backgrounds to individual displays is not straightforward.
The application works around this limitation by scaling and merging different images into a single wallpaper spanning the desktop. It also supports MATE, Cinnamon and Budgie, with experimental support for Sway.
Images can be zoomed, centred or fitted to the available display area. Where an image does not fill the screen, HydraPaper can use either a black background or a blurred version of the selected wallpaper.
You can organise wallpapers into collections, mark favourites and randomly select backgrounds. Many of the graphical application’s functions are also available from the command line, making it useful for scripted configurations.
