Tinte is a colour palette generator for terminal emulators and Wayland applications. It creates coordinated 16-colour schemes from wallpaper images or a user-specified colour, allowing applications to share a consistent appearance.
The program uses ImageMagick to extract dominant colours from images. It can also generate a palette directly from a hexadecimal colour value, without requiring an image. Light and dark colour schemes are supported.
Tinte focuses on ANSI terminal colours but also generates semantic values such as background, foreground, accent and surface colours. A template system makes these available to applications such as Alacritty, Kitty, Waybar and Hyprland.
Wallpaper commands and post-processing hooks can be configured to apply the selected image and reload applications after generating a theme. Tinte also offers command-line options for previewing palettes and exporting colour values as JSON.
This is free and open source software.
