LMG OS – Debian-based Linux distribution with Xfce

LMG OS (Logic Mind Grid) is a Debian-based Linux distribution. It uses the Xfce desktop environment with a distinctive black-and-neon-blue visual theme. The distribution targets everyday desktop computing, particularly on older computers and systems with limited memory.

The system can be tested in a live environment before installation. It uses the Calamares graphical installer and provides a collection of custom utilities for managing and configuring the desktop. The emphasis is on providing accessible graphical controls for routine system administration while retaining the flexibility of its Debian foundation.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • LMG Control Panel – centralizes update management, hardware information, memory details, disk tools, system tests and configuration settings.
  • Staged updates – downloads updates before installation, applies them before the desktop starts and provides one-click rollback to the previous state.
  • Bilingual desktop – switches between English and Persian across menus, applications and keyboard settings using a taskbar control.
  • Welcome experience – guides initial configuration, personalization and security settings, with introductory greetings in 24 languages.
  • Desktop folders – organizes applications into Android-style folders by dragging one application onto another.
  • Appearance customization – provides nine wallpapers, optional window animations, a configurable sidebar and taskbar visual effects.
  • Gaming Mode – closes unnecessary background applications and adjusts performance settings. Light mode offers a less demanding alternative.
  • Memory management – combines zram and earlyoom to help computers with limited RAM remain responsive.
  • Security tools – includes firewall and AppArmor support, an optional USB scanner and disk encryption during installation.
  • Windows application compatibility – integrates Wine and Bottles for running supported Windows software.
  • Device connectivity – provides LMG Connector for communicating with Android phones.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
