Here’s an image of LanguageTool on its first run. It shows the software identifying a couple of grammatical errors in a sentence.

But there’s so much more to this software. LanguageTool supports 31 languages, each developed by volunteer maintainers.
Prefer the command-line to GUI apps? The zip files includes a command-line tool (languagetool-commandline-jar) which lets you check plain text files. It works on a single file as well as recursively through a directory. It works well too.
