Atril is the document viewer developed for the MATE desktop environment. It provides a familiar interface for reading and printing PDF documents and several other formats, including PostScript, DjVu, DVI and XPS.
Originally forked from Evince, Atril retains a traditional graphical interface with a central reading area and optional side panels. It offers document searching, page thumbnails and access to tables of contents, making it straightforward to navigate lengthy documents.
Atril uses Poppler for PDF rendering, with additional libraries providing support for other document formats. Its integration with MATE makes it a natural choice for users who prefer a conventional desktop interface. Development takes place in the project’s GitHub repository.
