JFBView is a PDF and image viewer designed to operate directly on the Linux framebuffer. Unlike conventional graphical document viewers, it does not require an X11 session or a desktop environment.
The application combines fast rendering with document navigation, interactive text searching and adjustable zoom. Its multithreaded rendering system and background page caching help maintain responsiveness when opening complex documents.
JFBView is particularly useful for lightweight Linux installations, dedicated systems and environments where a conventional graphical desktop is unavailable. Despite its minimalist approach, it provides useful reading features such as document outlines, password protection and alternative colour modes.
