DiagNG is a diagnostic and network analysis application for communicating with Qualcomm Snapdragon cellular basebands found in many Android smartphones and USB modems. It enables researchers and developers to examine cellular network signalling by capturing diagnostic information from compatible devices.
The application is designed as a successor to QCSuper and draws inspiration from SCAT. Its primary purpose is to make cellular air-interface traces accessible to established packet analysis tools, particularly Wireshark.
DiagNG provides a desktop interface for managing diagnostic connections and captures. It is intended for telecommunications research, protocol analysis, interoperability testing and security investigations. The software remains experimental, and advanced protocol decoding capabilities are not yet complete.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Captures diagnostic information from compatible Qualcomm Snapdragon basebands.
- Supports cellular air-interface traces covering 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks.
- Converts supported Qualcomm diagnostic logs to GSMTAP and PCAP formats.
- GTK 4 and libadwaita graphical interface for managing devices and diagnostic captures.
- Supports raw USB and SPI diagnostic connections on Linux.
- Imports DLF and QMDL diagnostic files for processing existing captures.
- Integrates with Android Debug Bridge to retrieve device information and assist with diagnostic interface activation.
- Provides basic Qualcomm Diagnostic Monitor log registration.
- Wireshark plugin management for GSMTAP and 5G RRC decoding.
- Uses a privileged background service with D-Bus and Polkit integration to separate hardware access from the graphical interface.
- Integrates with Linux device management facilities including ModemManager and udev.
