git-remote-gcrypt is a Git remote helper that enables users to store encrypted repositories on remote servers. It uses GnuPG to protect repository contents, allowing confidential data to be stored on systems where the storage provider cannot be fully trusted.
The software integrates with standard Git commands through the gcrypt:: URL prefix. It supports local repositories, rsync over SSH, SFTP and standard Git transports. An experimental rclone backend is also available. Encryption and decryption are handled transparently when pushing and pulling repository data.
git-remote-gcrypt supports collaboration between multiple users through GnuPG public keys. Access can be restricted to specified participants, with cryptographic signatures used to authenticate repository data. Configuration options allow users to control encryption recipients, signing keys and remote behaviour.
This is free and open source software.
