git-chglog is a command-line utility for generating changelogs from Git repository history. It collects information from commits and tags, then formats the results into release notes using configurable templates and filtering rules.
Maintaining a changelog manually can be time-consuming, particularly in projects with many contributors or frequent releases. git-chglog reduces this work by extracting structured information from commit messages and arranging it into a consistent document.
The application supports different commit conventions and output styles, making it suitable for projects that want repeatable release documentation. Upstream now recommends git-cliff as its successor, but git-chglog remains usable with existing configurations and repositories.
