Gnomarchy – Arch-based Linux distribution with a customised GNOME desktop

Gnomarchy is an Arch Linux-based distribution that combines the developer-oriented tools and configuration philosophy of Omarchy with a customised GNOME desktop environment.

Rather than using Omarchy’s Hyprland compositor, Gnomarchy provides a Wayland session built around GNOME, Mutter and GDM. The desktop is designed for keyboard-oriented workflows while retaining familiar GNOME features and applications.

The distribution includes its own Command Center for managing themes, keyboard shortcuts, system updates, snapshots and other desktop functions. A unified theme engine coordinates the appearance of GNOME, GTK applications, terminals and development tools.

Gnomarchy uses Btrfs and Snapper to provide filesystem snapshots and rollback facilities. It also includes tools for software development, gaming, remote access and desktop automation.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
