Photofield is a self-hosted photo gallery designed for browsing large image collections with exceptional speed. Its interface allows users to explore thousands of photographs simultaneously, zooming smoothly from an overview of an entire collection into individual images.
The software takes a non-invasive approach to photo management. Existing files remain in their original directories, with indexing information and thumbnails maintained separately. This makes Photofield suitable for exploring established photo archives without reorganising or modifying the underlying files.
Photofield can operate independently or alongside another photo management application. Its emphasis is on responsive navigation and displaying large collections rather than providing a comprehensive photo editing or multi-user management system.
This is free and open source software.
