Pineapple Pictures – lightweight image viewer

Pineapple Pictures is a lightweight image viewer designed to display pictures without surrounding them with unnecessary controls. It focuses on fast image viewing and a minimal interface, making it suitable for users who want something simpler than a photo management application.

A particularly useful feature is its ability to remain above other windows. This allows Pineapple Pictures to function as a reference image viewer while working in drawing, illustration, modelling or other creative applications.

The program supports common image formats together with several formats associated with graphics software. It deliberately avoids becoming a full image editor or photo organiser.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Minimal interface – displays images with very little surrounding interface clutter.
  • Stay-on-top mode – keeps reference images visible while using other applications.
  • Broad format support – opens JPEG, PNG, GIF, SVG, PSD, KRA, XCF, TGA, HDR and AVIF files.
  • Fullscreen mode – displays images without desktop window decorations.
  • Zoom controls – adjust image magnification and navigate enlarged pictures.
  • Overview display – provides a bird’s-eye view when examining zoomed images.
  • Window protection – prevents accidental closure while using an image for reference.
  • Window resizing – provides convenient controls for changing the viewer size.
  • Localisation – supports translations for different languages.
  • Cross-platform support – runs on Linux and Windows.
