mtr-gtk is the graphical interface associated with mtr, the network diagnostic utility combining ping and traceroute. It allows users to investigate network routes and examine hop-level measurements through a desktop window.
The application continuously tests the path to a destination, making it possible to observe changes in connectivity and response times. Its graphical presentation offers an alternative to mtr’s terminal interface while retaining the underlying measurement functionality.
mtr-gtk is useful for administrators and desktop users who prefer a graphical environment for routine network investigations. It is particularly helpful when checking a route over an extended period to identify intermittent problems.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Graphical interface for network route tracing.
- Identify intermediate hops between the local host and a destination.
- Continuously measure network response times.
- Display packet-loss statistics for responding hops.
- Compare latency measurements along a network route.
- Update diagnostic information during an active session.
- Investigate connectivity problems without using the terminal interface.
- Use mtr’s network probing facilities through a GTK frontend.
