fping is a high-performance network utility for checking connectivity to multiple hosts. It differs from conventional ping by sending probes to several destinations in a round-robin manner instead of waiting for one host to respond before moving to another.
The application is particularly useful for network monitoring, automated checks and scripts that need to examine large numbers of hosts. Destinations can be supplied individually or read from a file, and the results can be presented in forms suitable for further processing.
fping has a long development history and remains a practical tool for network administrators. Its flexible probing controls make it possible to balance measurement frequency, timeout behaviour and the number of hosts being tested.
