clojure-lsp is a language server for Clojure and ClojureScript. It brings intelligent code editing capabilities to text editors and integrated development environments that support the Language Server Protocol (LSP).
The software performs static analysis of source code to understand project structure, symbols, namespaces and dependencies. It works with editors including Emacs, Vim, Neovim and Visual Studio Code, providing a consistent set of development tools regardless of the chosen editing environment.
Although primarily designed to work alongside an editor, clojure-lsp also provides a command-line interface and API. These allow developers to perform analysis and refactoring operations outside their editor, making the software useful for automation and development workflows.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Code completion – suggests functions, variables, namespaces and other symbols while editing.
- Code navigation – jump to definitions and implementations, find references and explore project symbols.
- Diagnostics – integrates clj-kondo analysis with additional checks for unused public variables, inconsistent aliases and cyclic dependencies.
- Refactoring – rename symbols, restructure expressions and perform a wide range of automated code transformations.
- Namespace management – organise imports, remove unused references and clean namespace declarations.
- Formatting – format complete files or selected code ranges.
- Code intelligence – provides documentation on hover, signature help, semantic highlighting and code lenses.
- Call hierarchy – explore incoming and outgoing function calls to understand relationships within a codebase.
- Java interoperability – provides analysis and navigation capabilities for Java symbols referenced from Clojure.
- Extensibility – supports custom linters and optional clj-depend integration for architectural dependency checks.
- Cross-platform support – runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows.
