Genea is a browser-based genealogy application for creating, viewing and editing family trees. It offers a visual approach to recording family relationships, helping users organise information about ancestors, descendants and other relatives.
The application uses GEDCOM, a standard format for exchanging genealogical information between family history programs. Existing records can be opened and edited without having to transfer an entire family database into a proprietary online service. Genea runs without server-side application components, distinguishing it from genealogy platforms built around a central database.
Users can access the hosted application or deploy their own copy. Genealogical information can be retained in files under their control, with optional Git integration for storing and synchronising family records.
