termtastic is a terminal-based client for Meshtastic, the decentralised mesh networking system that allows compatible LoRa radio devices to exchange messages without conventional internet or cellular connectivity.
The application provides an interactive interface for communicating with other nodes, managing connected radios and monitoring mesh network activity. It supports direct and channel-based messaging, with information about message delivery paths and radio signal quality.
termtastic also provides tools for examining neighbouring nodes, reviewing telemetry and configuring Meshtastic devices. It stores messages and network information locally, allowing users to revisit conversations and inspect previously received data.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Interactive terminal interface for Meshtastic mesh networks.
- Send and receive channel broadcasts and direct messages.
- Scrollable conversation history with locally stored messages.
- Reply to messages and send emoji reactions.
- Display message timestamps, sender information and routing details.
- Show signal quality information including SNR and RSSI for directly connected nodes.
- Display hop counts for messages forwarded through the mesh.
- Browse known nodes with their identifiers, names and last-heard times.
- Sort and filter nodes by distance, hop count and other attributes.
- Fuzzy searching of the node list.
- Detailed node information including telemetry and geographical position.
- Traceroute functionality for investigating routes through the mesh.
- Store telemetry and traceroute results in a local database.
- Configure LoRa, channel, security, device, position and power settings.
- Configure supported Meshtastic modules including MQTT, telemetry and store-and-forward.
- Connect to compatible radios using TCP, Bluetooth LE or serial connections.
- Automatic device discovery through Bluetooth, serial interfaces and mDNS.
- Automatic reconnection with increasing retry delays.
- Scrollable application logs with detailed record inspection.
