Percona XtraBackup is a command-line utility for creating physical backups of MySQL and Percona Server databases. It is designed to minimise disruption to database workloads while backup operations are running.
The application copies database files while allowing supported transactional workloads to continue. It supports full and incremental backups, reducing the amount of data that must be transferred when creating subsequent backups. Its streaming capabilities allow backup data to be directed to another system or storage service.
Percona XtraBackup also supports compression, encryption and parallel operations to improve backup efficiency. Administrators can use it to prepare backups for restoration or to provision additional database servers without relying on logical SQL exports.
