Calculators

Modular Calculator – aimed at scientific, engineering or computing work

Modular Calculator is a scriptable calculator aimed at scientific, engineering and computing work. It is particularly useful for calculations involving several stages, where the results of one expression need to be reused in subsequent operations.

The graphical application provides separate input and output panes. You can enter multiple statements, assign values to variables and execute the complete sequence of calculations. An Insert menu provides access to functions, operators, constants, dates and units without needing to remember their syntax.

The calculator handles a wide range of data types, including numbers, strings, arrays, dates and physical units. It supports statistical and trigonometric functions, Boolean logic, regular expressions and conversions between different measurement systems.

Its main attraction is extensibility. Existing functionality can be enabled, disabled or customised, while new operations can be written in Python. Themes and other application settings are stored in YAML configuration files.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Enter and execute multiple mathematical statements using separate input and output panes.
  • Assign calculation results to variables for reuse in subsequent expressions.
  • Supports arbitrary number bases and conversion between numeral systems.
  • Perform statistical, trigonometric, date and time calculations.
  • Convert physical units between metric, US customary and British Imperial systems.
  • Apply operators and functions to arrays, including nested arrays.
  • Manipulate strings using functions and regular expressions.
  • Create reusable functions and extend the calculator with custom Python code.
  • Enable, disable and customise individual calculator features.
  • Configure the interface using themes and YAML configuration files.
