x48ng is an emulator of the Hewlett-Packard HP 48 family of scientific graphing calculators. It is a continuation of the original x48 emulator, designed to make these classic calculators available on modern systems.
The HP 48 series was produced between 1990 and 2003 and became popular with engineers, scientists and students. The calculators offered scientific functions, graphing capabilities and a programmable environment based on Reverse Polish Lisp (RPL).
x48ng provides several ways to interact with the emulated calculator. These include a conventional X11 graphical interface, SDL-based graphical versions and terminal interfaces based on ncurses.
The project was previously developed on GitHub, but its repository was archived in December 2025 following a migration to Codeberg. The GitHub repository remains available as a historical reference.
This is free and open source software.
