Maitreya – Vedic and Western astrology

Maitreya is open source software for Vedic and Western Astrology. Maitreya is the ardent disciple of Maharishi Parasara, the author of the Hora Shastra, the supreme standard text of Vedic astrology.

The software supports classical Vedic astrology, KP system and parts of the Jaimini system. The Western part includes Uranian astrology.

The atlas uses the Geonames location database which is based upon the Creative Commons License.

Features include:

  • Multiple views.
  • Many features for the daily work of Vedic and western astrologers.
  • A large number of calculation options that make the program a stable basis for research purposes:
    • Data calculation.
    • Support for Upagraha and Kala Vela calculations.
    • Support for Jaimini calculations.
    • Western Astrology: Calculation of transits according to Midpoint astrology.
  • Views: Planet, Vedic Chart, Text, Dasa, Graphical Dasa, Sarvatobhadra, Solar/Tajaka, Western Chart, Midpoint, Midpoint Transit.
  • All astrological objects are available in both Vedic and western view (including Upagrahas, Kalavelas, Arabic points, Uranian planets, planetoids).
  • Yoga view shows planetary events according to classical scriptures (Parasara, Saravali, Brihat Jataka). Support for higher Vargas.
  • Yoga editor for custom Yoga definitions.
  • Various optical features like skins and highlight of aspects for charts and Sarvatobhadra.
  • Uranian astrology: sensitive points (midpoints, reflection points, sums, differences) and their events, annual predictions.
  • Support for astrological scripting language.
  • Highly configurable.
  • Keyboard and mouse shortcuts.
  • Internationalization support: English (default), French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Singalese (partial), Tamil (partial), and Telugu.
