v2 is a local-first rich-text editor that places document ownership, versioning and portable formats at the centre of its design. Its editing model is intended to retain the convenience of visual document editing without tying the underlying content exclusively to a proprietary format.
Documents are represented using structured data, which allows v2 to reason about changes at a finer level than an editor that simply stores formatted output. This forms the basis of its version comparison and merging facilities.
Interoperability is another major part of the design. Markdown and Pandoc-oriented document structures make it easier to move material into and out of the editor and continue working with it using other tools.
