PGPTool is a Java-based desktop application for encrypting and decrypting files using OpenPGP. It is designed to simplify repetitive encryption tasks, particularly for users who regularly work with sensitive documents stored locally or synchronised to cloud services.
The application remembers previous encryption settings and suggests appropriate parameters when processing files. This reduces the number of manual operations required when encrypting documents or reopening encrypted files for editing. PGPTool also includes key management, support for elliptic curve cryptography and facilities for decrypting selected content directly into memory.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Encrypts and decrypts files and text using the OpenPGP standard.
- Remembers previous encryption settings, including file locations and recipients, to simplify repeated operations.
- Supports elliptic curve cryptography for generating OpenPGP keys.
- Provides tools for generating, importing, exporting and managing cryptographic keys.
- Can decrypt text, images and PDF documents directly into memory and display them using an embedded viewer.
- Supports workflows for editing decrypted files and encrypting them again after changes.
- Offers facilities for managing files that have been decrypted temporarily.
