Wolf Spectrum is a real-time spectrogram analyser for examining the frequency content of audio.
It is aimed at musicians, producers, engineers and other users who want a continuously scrolling view of how energy is distributed across the spectrum while sound is playing. The program can sit inside a compatible audio host or run independently with JACK, making it useful both during production work and for general monitoring. Its interface concentrates on the spectrum itself rather than surrounding the display with unrelated controls.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Offers logarithmic and linear frequency scaling for different ways of inspecting the spectrum.
- Provides selectable analysis block sizes from 64 to 16,384 samples, letting you trade time resolution against frequency resolution.
- Handles stereo audio and can analyse the mean of the left and right channels or either channel individually.
- Includes adjustable input gain over a 50 dB range to make quieter or louder material easier to inspect.
- Lets you show or hide captions and the on-screen controls to keep the display as clean as required.
- Uses a resizable graphical interface built with DPF and NanoVG/OpenGL.
- Builds as LV2, VST2, VST3 and CLAP plug-ins, as well as a standalone JACK application.
- Identifies itself to hosts as a stereo analyser effect and is designed for real-time-safe audio processing.
- Uses KISS FFT for spectral analysis and a lock-free queue for passing analysis data to the graphical interface.
