cadubi, short for Creative ASCII Drawing Utility By Ian, is a terminal-based drawing application for creating illustrations using text characters. It provides an interactive canvas where users can position characters and adjust their appearance.
The application was designed for environments where graphics are represented through terminal characters rather than conventional pixels. Its artwork is suitable for decorative text, terminal messages, bulletin board systems and other character-oriented material.
cadubi uses a configurable drawing pen. The pen determines the character, foreground colour, background colour and attributes applied when painting on the canvas.
The editor also provides a dedicated text mode, allowing ordinary words and phrases to be inserted alongside drawings. Completed artwork can be saved and displayed using terminal utilities that support ANSI text formatting.
This is free and open source software.
