Aewan, short for Ascii-art Editor Without a Name, is an interactive terminal application for creating character-based illustrations. It provides a drawing canvas where individual characters can be positioned and modified using keyboard controls.
The editor is intended for producing artwork that can be displayed directly in terminals or incorporated into text-based applications. It supports colours and text attributes, allowing drawings to be more elaborate than simple monochrome character arrangements.
One of Aewan’s distinguishing capabilities is its multilayer editing system. Layers can contain separate drawing elements, making it possible to construct more complicated images and organise animations as sequences of frames.
The application can save artwork in a directly displayable format or a structured representation suitable for subsequent processing.
