Xastir – X11 graphical APRS client

Xastir is an X11 graphical APRS client developed for amateur radio operators.

It uses amateur radio and Internet services to present GPS mapping, weather, and positional data in a graphical interface, and it’s designed to provide real-time APRS information in an accessible desktop application for Linux and other Unix-like systems.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Supports online map retrieval as well as raster, vector, and GeoTIFF map formats when the relevant optional libraries are installed.
  • Can work with internet APRS services and optional AX.25 support for Linux kernel mode packet radio operation.
  • Offers map snapshots, map printing, and Berkeley DB-based caching to improve raster map handling when enabled.
  • Includes optional text-to-speech and identification features for specialised operating and broadcast scenarios.
  • Provides extensive build and setup documentation, including Git-based development sources and platform-specific guidance.
