AetherSDR is a native desktop SDR workstation with extensive support for FlexRadio transceivers. It communicates directly with compatible radios using the SmartSDR protocol and combines radio operation, spectrum displays, digital-mode integration and station control in a single interface.
The program has expanded beyond its original radio-control role. It now includes substantial client-side signal processing, packet-radio facilities, digital voice, speech transcription and a developing hardware abstraction layer for additional receiver and transceiver families.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Multi-slice operation with independent transmit assignment and diversity reception.
- Multiple detachable panadapters with GPU-accelerated spectrum and waterfall displays.
- AetherRX provides configurable receive processing including noise reduction, equalisation and dynamics processing.
- AetherTX provides a configurable transmit chain with gate, equalisation, compression, de-essing, limiting and other processing.
- Multiple client-side noise-reduction engines process stereo and diversity audio independently.
- DAX virtual audio and I/Q channels integrate with WSJT-X, fldigi, VARA and JS8Call.
- AetherModem provides AX.25 packet radio, KISS-over-TCP, BBS, personal mailbox and APRS facilities.
- SpotHub combines DX Cluster, Reverse Beacon Network, WSJT-X, POTA, FreeDV Reporter and other data sources.
- CW facilities include real-time decoding and keyboard, MIDI and paddle keying.
- Copy Assist provides local speech transcription of received voice.
- Supports FreeDV RADE digital voice.
- AetherSweep provides graphical SWR analysis within the radio interface.
- SmartLink supports remote FlexRadio operation.
- TCI provides CAT, audio, I/Q, CW and spot integration.
- Workspace Canvas allows panadapters and applets to be arranged as resizable items across multiple windows.
- Built-in synthetic receiver allows the interface to be explored without radio hardware.
- Additional receiver and transceiver backends include developing support for Hermes-Lite, Icom, ANAN, KiwiSDR, Web-888 and RTL-SDR hardware.
