CGView.js is a JavaScript library for creating interactive genome maps in web applications. It is particularly suited to relatively small genomes, including bacterial and organellar genomes, where circular representations can provide an effective overview of genes, sequence features and other annotations.
Applications embed CGView.js directly in a web page and configure a viewer using JavaScript. Maps can be displayed in circular or linear layouts and users can interactively move between an overview of the genome and much finer sequence-level detail. The project can also be combined with CGParse.js to convert common biological sequence formats into map data.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Creates interactive circular genome maps.
- Also supports linear genome layouts.
- Provides smooth zooming and navigation from whole-genome to sequence-level views.
- Displays annotated genomic features on configurable tracks.
- Supports quantitative data plots alongside genome annotations.
- Offers labels, legends and captions for explaining map content.
- Provides interactive highlighting and pointer-driven exploration.
- Supports configurable map appearance and layout.
- Can export genome visualizations as SVG.
- Supports PNG image export.
- Can be installed as an npm package or incorporated directly into browser applications.
- Works with CGParse.js for converting GenBank and EMBL data into suitable map input.
- Provides tutorials, API documentation and example visualizations.
- Includes automated performance benchmarking for large or complex maps.
- Uses D3 for parts of its visualization functionality.
