Ctioga is a powerful, open source command-line plotting system written in Ruby. It has been designed to rapidly make publication-quality graphs.
It aims at plotting quickly both data files and mathematical functions, with however the possibility of a high control over the details.
It produces high quality PDF files with text processed with pdflatex. It is based on the Tioga library, written by one of the creators of the postscript language.
Ctioga has been designed with ease of use and extensibility in mind.

- Very easy to do simple things (plotting a simple text file doesn’t take more than a second or two).
- Create very complex grid layouts using styles.
- Output can be configured to a very deep level.
- Offers many features that are not found on other plotting systems (at least not all at once), such as gradients for successive curves, color maps and contours, nice filled curves, and more.
- Features a plugin backend system that takes care of reading data files, it is very easy to enhance existing backends or add new file formats (such as binary ones).
- The text on the graph is typeset beautifully as it’s handled by LaTeX, a highly revered document preparation system.
- Many fancy effects, such as gradients for successive curves, filled curves, transparency, the ability to make insets (zooms, for instance), attractive histograms.
- Scripting capabilities which enable you to create animated graphs, and lots more.
- PDF, EPS, PNG (with the help of convert) and SVG (with the help of pdf2svg) output.
- Includes the coloursets from colorbrewer2.org.
