objdiff – object file diffing for decompilation projects

objdiff is a specialised comparison tool for decompilation projects. It compares a target relocatable object with an object built from the current source, helping developers see how closely reconstructed source code matches the original binary.

Projects can describe their object files and build process in a configuration file. objdiff can then rebuild changed source automatically, compare the resulting objects and provide immediate feedback without repeatedly setting up commands by hand. Both graphical and command-line interfaces are available.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Compares complete relocatable object files, covering functions and data.
  • Automatically rebuilds source objects when watched files change.
  • Supports project configuration that maps target and current objects and describes build behaviour.
  • Searches and filters project objects with quick switching between units.
  • Provides built-in C++ symbol demangling for GCC, MSVC, CodeWarrior and Itanium naming schemes.
  • Can highlight values and registers while inspecting generated assembly.
  • Reports detailed matching progress for individual objects and whole projects.
  • Supports ARM targets including GBA, DS and 3DS.
  • Supports ARM64, MIPS, PowerPC, SuperH, x86 and x86_64 architectures.
  • Handles projects targeting systems including Switch, N64, PlayStation platforms, GameCube, Wii, Xbox 360, Saturn and Dreamcast.
  • Can identify similar functions to help pair code whose symbol names or positions have changed.
  • Provides configurable symbol mappings and compiler-specific handling.
  • Offers a WebAssembly API, web interface and Visual Studio Code integration in addition to its native interfaces.
