Bootleg Toolbox is a desktop application for collectors and traders of lossless live concert recordings. It brings together tools for checking recording integrity, identifying audio quality problems and preparing concert recordings for sharing.
The application is designed around collections organised by concert, disc and track. Users can load entire folders, inspect recordings and carry out operations on individual tracks or complete shows. It provides a graphical interface as well as command-line functionality for automated workflows.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Read FLAC, WAV, AIFF, APE, SHN, WavPack, ALAC, MP3, AAC and Ogg audio files.
- Verify and create FFP, ST5, MD5 and SFV checksums, including checksum files using Windows paths and filenames.
- Decode-test audio files to identify damaged or truncated recordings.
- Analyse spectral characteristics and MP3/AAC encoding traces to identify possible lossy transcodes, upsampling and disguised lower-bit-depth recordings.
- Generate spectrograms and detailed reports explaining audio analysis findings.
- Estimate tape speed errors using FM pilot tones, musical tuning references and mains hum.
- Detect and correct sector boundary errors, producing corrected FLAC copies without modifying the original recordings.
- Convert recordings to FLAC or WAV, with verification of FLAC output, and generate MP3 copies.
- Create private torrents for trading trackers and verify downloaded recordings against torrent checksums.
- Extract audio tracks from DVD-Video, MKV and MP4 sources.
- Tag and rename FLAC recordings using concert information files, with an option to undo changes.
- Retrieve concert setlists from setlist.fm using a personal API key.
- Integrate with file managers and provide command-line operations for batch processing.
- Cross-platform support – runs on Linux and Windows.
