File Managers

goful – multi-workspace terminal file manager

goful is a console-based file manager that combines keyboard-driven file navigation with multiple windows and workspaces. It offers a flexible alternative to conventional single-pane and dual-pane terminal file managers.

The application allows users to organise directory windows in different layouts and switch between separate workspaces. This makes it possible to manage several directory locations within one terminal session.

goful also integrates with external shells and terminal multiplexers, enabling users to execute commands while working with files. Its command interface supports filename substitution and macros, reducing the need to type complete paths repeatedly.

Unlike many terminal file managers, goful does not use a conventional configuration file. Users customise the application by modifying its source code, allowing them to alter keyboard shortcuts, colours, bookmarks, file associations, and other behaviour.

This is free and open source software.
