COSMIC System Monitor is a graphical application for monitoring system resources and managing running applications and processes on Linux. Its visual design follows the desktop’s interface conventions, including navigation, typography, colours and appearance settings.
The application is designed to make resource consumption easier to understand without requiring users to switch repeatedly between different monitoring utilities. It combines an overview dashboard with more detailed views, making it possible to identify resource-intensive applications and investigate the underlying activity.
Performance information is presented alongside the applications or processes responsible for it. This helps users establish whether high processor usage, memory pressure or storage activity is associated with a particular workload.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Unified dashboard covering applications, processes, CPU, memory, GPU, disks and network activity.
- Live performance graphs showing resource usage over time.
- Detailed CPU monitoring, including individual processor usage, frequencies and available temperature information.
- Memory monitoring with usage statistics and historical activity graphs.
- GPU monitoring with utilisation and available memory statistics, depending on hardware and driver support.
- Disk monitoring showing storage activity and read/write throughput.
- Network monitoring displaying incoming and outgoing traffic for available interfaces.
- Application and process lists showing resource consumption.
- Search and sorting facilities for locating running applications and processes.
- Controls for quitting applications or terminating unresponsive processes.
- Resource detail pages combining performance charts with the processes consuming the monitored resources.
- Integrates with COSMIC appearance settings and supports interface localisation.
