xfce4-taskmanager is a lightweight graphical application for monitoring running processes and resource consumption. Originally developed for the Xfce desktop, it provides an approachable way to examine system activity without the complexity of more comprehensive monitoring utilities.
The application combines a process list with processor and memory monitoring. Users can quickly identify applications consuming excessive resources, inspect the processes running in the background and terminate programs that have stopped responding.
Its interface is deliberately compact, making it suitable for systems where a larger monitoring application would be unnecessary. The process list can be configured to show different columns, and a hierarchical view helps explain relationships between running processes.
Although closely associated with Xfce, the application can also be used with other desktop environments. It supports several Unix-like operating systems in addition to Linux.
