git-of-theseus examines how a Git repository evolves through the lifetime of a project. It is especially interested in code age, contributor influence and the changing proportion of the source tree that comes from different periods of development.
The project consists of analysis and plotting commands. A repository is processed into structured data, which can then be visualised to answer questions such as how much of the early code remains or how the share contributed by different authors has shifted.
The analysis distinguishes the year in which code originated from the year in which it is being measured. A project can therefore show strong growth while retaining relatively little of its earliest code. Cohort plots and contributor charts give complementary views of that history.
This is free and open source software.
