Firefly Synth 2 is a software synthesizer designed for detailed sound design and flexible signal routing. It combines multiple synthesis techniques with a modular approach to modulation, effects and voice processing, while keeping commonly used controls directly accessible. The instrument is available as VST3 and CLAP plugins on Linux, and its interface includes realtime visual feedback together with extensive theming options. It also supports microtuning through MTS-ESP and can accept external audio as an oscillator source.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Four oscillators with DSF additive generation, basic waveforms, dedicated hard-sync and FM generators, plus a combined string/noise algorithm.
- Inter-oscillator AM and FM routing lets oscillators modulate one another without requiring external processing.
- External audio can be used as an oscillator source, extending the instrument beyond internally generated waveforms.
- Four per-voice and four global effects slots provide comb filtering, state-variable filtering, compression and several waveshaping options.
- Separate per-voice and global echo sections offer reverb, feedback delay and multitap delay, with built-in filtering.
- Six per-voice and six global LFOs provide multiple waveforms, subslots and skewing controls for complex modulation.
- Seven per-voice envelopes use a 16-stage MSEG design with a visual editor, configurable loop and release points, and linear or exponential modes.
- An extensive modulation matrix provides 17 per-voice slots and 9 global slots for detailed source-to-destination routing.
- Global unison exposes 28 per-voice parameters and can provide manual control over voice positioning.
- Detailed audio routing is available without requiring the modulation matrix, reducing setup work for complex patches.
- Sidechain input is supported by both the instrument and effects variants.
- Realtime graphs and knobs can display per-voice activity, while configurable themes alter the visual presentation.
