Qwertone is a simple music synthesizer that turns an ordinary computer keyboard into a musical instrument.
Instead of requiring a dedicated MIDI controller or piano keyboard, the application assigns musical notes to the keys on a standard QWERTY keyboard. This makes it easy to experiment with melodies, harmonies and basic synthesis using familiar computer hardware.
The interface displays a representation of the keyboard with each key labelled according to its corresponding musical note. Notes can be played directly by pressing the mapped keys, while a visual timeline shows their timing and duration.
Qwertone deliberately concentrates on straightforward sound generation rather than the complex synthesis engines and extensive parameter controls found in professional music production software.
The application is suitable for experimenting with musical notes, practising simple melodies and learning how keyboard input can be used to generate sound.
This is free and open source software.
