DIN Is Noise is an experimental synthesizer and performance instrument with an unusually direct approach to pitch. Rather than relying solely on conventional piano keys, it lets a musician move across a visible pitch field and play the notes and microtones between them.
Horizontal mouse movement can control pitch while vertical movement shapes loudness. This makes it possible to slide continuously between tones, explore unusual scales and create gestures that are difficult to achieve on a fixed keyboard.
The instrument is particularly suited to drones, improvisation and microtonal composition. Its Linux source is licensed separately from the proprietary editions offered for other operating systems.
