sniffIt is a Distributed Sniffer System, which allows users to capture network traffic from an unique machine using a graphical client application.
This feature is useful in switched networks, where traditional sniffers only allow users to sniff their own network traffic. sniffit can by default handle ethernet and PPP devices, but can easily be forced into using other devices.
sniffit is able to give you very detailed technical info on these packets (SEQ, ACK, TTL, Window, …) but also packet contents in different formats (hex or plain text, …). he sniffer can easily be configured in order to ’filter’ the incoming packets
This is free and open source software.
sniffit is not maintained.
