Botspot Screen Recorder – all-in-one screen recording utility

Botspot Screen Recorder is an all-in-one screen recording utility for wlroots-based Wayland compositors such as LabWC, Wayfire, and Sway.

The software is a lightweight shell script which brings together wf-recorder, ffmpeg, MPV, PipeWire, and YAD to record the screen, webcam, microphone, system audio, or combinations of these sources.

It is particularly pitched at Raspberry Pi users and other systems without strong hardware-accelerated video encoding.

Key Features

  • Record the screen on wlroots-based Wayland compositors
  • Capture webcam video, microphone input, and system audio
  • Record screen and webcam together
  • Crop a fixed rectangular section of the screen
  • Mirror the webcam feed
  • Custom frame rate and quality settings
  • Downscale output to reduce CPU usage and file size
  • Convert recordings to MKV, MP4, GIF, WEBP, MP3, and WAV
  • Saves presets for future sessions
  • Auto-updates via git pull
