Warewulf is a cluster provisioning system designed primarily for high-performance computing environments. It enables administrators to deploy and manage large numbers of Linux compute nodes from centrally maintained operating system images.
The software is particularly useful for stateless clusters, where nodes boot over the network rather than depending on independently maintained local operating system installations. This approach helps administrators keep compute nodes consistent and simplifies recovery when hardware is replaced or reconfigured.
Warewulf uses node images, profiles and overlays to control how systems are provisioned. Images provide the operating system environment, profiles define common node settings, and overlays allow administrators to customise files and configuration information for individual machines or groups of nodes.
Administrative tasks are performed using the wwctl command-line tool. Warewulf also integrates with networking and cluster services needed to support network booting and centrally managed Linux infrastructure.
This is free and open source software.
