Trove is a self-hosted file storage platform aimed at people who want straightforward file management without the wider application stack of a full groupware suite. It provides a browser-based environment for personal storage, small teams and homelab deployments.
Its scope is deliberately narrow. Trove concentrates on managing stored files and making them accessible to the people who need them rather than adding calendars, contacts, messaging or a complete office suite.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Upload files with drag-and-drop, organise them in a virtual folder hierarchy, and rename, move or delete files and directories.
- Streaming and resumable chunked uploads support large files, pause and resume, automatic retry and SHA-256 verification.
- Pluggable storage backends include local disk and S3-compatible services.
- Content-addressed deduplication avoids storing duplicate file data unnecessarily.
- Multi-user authentication with per-user storage quotas, configurable registration and administrator controls.
- Create public links for files or folders with optional passwords, expiry dates and maximum-use limits.
- Full-text search can search filenames, extracted content and tags.
- OpenID Connect single sign-on supports automatic user provisioning and administrator claims.
- Preview images, PDFs, video, audio, text and code files directly in the browser.
- Optional video transcoding creates browser-friendly H.264/AAC copies while retaining the original uploaded file.
- Deleted items can be retained for a configurable period before permanent removal.
- Health checks, structured logging and Prometheus-compatible metrics support server monitoring.
