QOwnNotes is a plain-text note-taking application that combines local Markdown files with extensive editing, organisation and synchronisation capabilities. It is particularly suitable for users who want to retain direct control over their notes rather than store them in a proprietary database.
Notes are ordinary text files held in directories on the local filesystem. They can be opened with other text editors, backed up using conventional tools and synchronised using the service of your choice. QOwnNotes integrates with Nextcloud and ownCloud, making it possible to access notes across devices without relying on a dedicated commercial note-taking service.
The interface provides a Markdown editor, note previews, search facilities and several ways to organise a collection. Its extensive configuration options and scripting facilities also make it attractive to users who want to tailor their note-taking workflow to particular requirements.
