MPDCtrlX is a graphical client for Music Player Daemon (MPD) that provides a desktop interface for browsing music collections and controlling playback. It is a cross-platform version of MPDCtrl, which was originally developed for Windows.
The application uses Avalonia UI and is particularly focused on providing a native-feeling experience for Linux desktop users. It supports Wayland and integrates with the Linux desktop through the Media Player Remote Interfacing Specification (MPRIS).
MPDCtrlX provides separate views for albums, artists, files, searching and playlists. This allows users to navigate their music library in different ways, whether they prefer exploring album collections or working directly with the underlying directory structure.
Its graphical interface makes MPD accessible without requiring users to manage playback entirely through terminal commands. The client communicates with an MPD server, which remains responsible for playing the audio.
This is free and open source software.
