q – command line DNS client

q is a tiny command line DNS client with support for UDP, TCP, DoT, DoH, DoQ and ODoH.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Recursive AXFR.
  • IP Whois.
  • Resolve PTRs from A/AAAAs.
  • Server from DNS Stamp.
  • Output Formats: Raw (dig-style), Pretty colors, JSON, and YAML.
  • Output Control: Toggle question section, answer section, authority, section, additional section, and show query time.
  • Protocols supported:
    • UDP/TCP DNS (RFC 1034).
    • DNS over TLS (RFC 7858).
    • DNS over HTTPS (RFC 8484).
    • DNS over QUIC (RFC 9250).
    • Oblivious DNS over HTTPS (RFC 9230).
    • DNSCrypt v2 (draft-dennis-dprive-dnscrypt).
