OpenStack is a cloud computing platform for building and operating Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments. It manages pools of computing, storage and networking resources across data centres, allowing organisations to provide infrastructure on demand.
The platform consists of interconnected services, each responsible for a particular part of cloud management. Its modular architecture allows operators to select the components required for their infrastructure, whether they are building a private cloud, a public cloud or a distributed edge deployment.
Administrators can manage resources through a dashboard, command-line tools and APIs. Users can provision their own resources within the access permissions and quotas established by cloud operators.
