LFTP is a command-line file transfer program designed around a shell-like interface. It supports several network protocols and is particularly well suited to long-running transfers, mirroring jobs and scripted file operations.
Its job-control model resembles a Unix shell. Transfers can continue in the background while another remote site is browsed, and LFTP can automatically reconnect and retry operations after recoverable network failures. Sessions, jobs and multiple connections can therefore be managed from a single process.
LFTP is also useful for automation. Its command language supports conditional execution, aliases, scheduled jobs and scripts, while its mirroring tools can synchronise directory trees in either direction. It can transfer data between remote servers and use FXP where the FTP servers permit it.
